Piper garagaranum pale upright flower spike surrounded by strongly veined glossy leaves

Piper garagaranum

A tropical shrub native from Nicaragua through Costa Rica and Panama to northwestern Colombia, Piper garagaranum grows in wet lowland and foothill forests. Its minute flowers are densely packed along narrow upright spikes rather than arranged as showy individual blooms. Strongly veined, textured foliage surrounds the pale inflorescences on softly hairy stems. Photographed in Florida.
