Physostegia virginiana
A rhizomatous perennial herb native to central and eastern North America, Physostegia virginiana grows in prairies, open woods, stream margins, and moist meadows. Upright flower spikes carry rows of pink to lavender tubular blooms with two-lipped openings. Individual flowers can remain temporarily in a new position when gently moved, giving rise to the common name obedient plant. Photographed in Virginia.
