Phlegmariurus crassus

Phlegmariurus crassus is a firmoss native to high elevations of the tropical Andes. It forms upright, densely leaf-covered shoots rather than flowers or seeds, reproducing by spores produced in specialized leaf axils. The species grows in open, cool páramo and puna vegetation. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
