Phalaenopsis equestris
Phalaenopsis equestris is an epiphytic orchid native to Taiwan and the Philippines. It grows on trees in humid tropical forests, using thick roots to anchor itself while absorbing moisture from the air and rainfall. Branching flower spikes carry many small pale pink blooms with deeper magenta lips. The species has contributed its compact habit and abundant flowering to numerous cultivated orchid hybrids. Photographed in Florida.
