Petunia exserta deep red flower with projecting pale stamens on softly hairy stems

Petunia exserta

A rare perennial herb endemic to a small area of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil, Petunia exserta grows in shaded cracks on sandstone towers. It is the only naturally red-flowered wild petunia and has reproductive structures that project beyond the corolla. Its extremely limited habitat makes the species vulnerable to disturbance and genetic mixing with cultivated petunias. Photographed in Florida.
