At 4,600 feet in the Central Andes Mountains it has a great climate. Heavy year-round rainfall of about 95 inches provides greenery to the mountains towards the east and the valley towards the west. The average high is 80 and the average low is 63. Located in the coffee triangle the city has a metropolitan population of over 700,000. It is one of the better places to live in Colombia. West of Pereira the mountains and elevation drop into the fertile Cauca Valley.
