Pelargonium sidoides

A tuberous perennial or low subshrub native to South Africa, Eswatini, and Lesotho, Pelargonium sidoides produces a basal rosette and slender flower stalks bearing small dark burgundy blossoms. The flowers have two narrow upper petals and three lower petals, with pale markings near the throat. Its thickened underground rootstock enables the plant to persist through seasonal dry periods, while the rounded leaves have softly scalloped margins and a silvery surface. Photographed in Florida.
