Pelargonium odoratissimum (Apple geranium)
Native to southern Africa, this low-growing evergreen perennial herb has a short main stem and trailing flowering stems. It reaches about ten inches tall. Rounded, light green leaves release an apple scent when rubbed. Small white flowers grow in clusters, with red veins marking the two upper petals. It is cultivated chiefly for its fragrant foliage. It has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. It is toxic to dogs, cats and horses if eaten. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
