Pavonia dasypetala

A tropical shrub distributed from Honduras and Nicaragua through Costa Rica and Panama to northern South America, Pavonia dasypetala grows in warm forest margins and open vegetation. Its flowers have five deep rose-pink petals surrounding a prominent central staminal column, and rounded, ribbed buds are enclosed by overlapping green bracts. Photographed in Panama.
