Paullinia fuscescens branch bearing clustered orange red mature capsules

Paullinia fuscescens

Paullinia fuscescens is a tropical climbing plant in the soapberry family. Its woody stems rise through surrounding vegetation, and its compound leaves are arranged along flexible shoots. The inflorescences bear small flowers followed by capsules that become orange-red as they mature, creating a conspicuous display against the foliage. Its native range extends from Mexico through Central America to northern South America. Photographed in Florida.
