Passiflora quadrangularis (Giant Granadilla)

The Giant Granadilla, recognized as the largest fruit-bearing member within its genus, originates from the tropical expanses of northern South America below 5,000 feet. The red, bowl-shaped flowers exuding a sweet aroma, adorned with large purple and white coronal filaments, culminates in the revelation of its green fruit. The fruit's edible mesocarp is acknowledged for being a rich source of phytochemicals, which are compounds known for their health benefits. The vine has the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. The fruit is not commonly sold and goes by the name of badea in Colombia. It is primarily used as a juice and is very similar in taste to Passiflora ligularis (granadilla).
