Passiflora mixta

A robust vine tracing its roots to Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador between 4,000 and 11,000 feet. The green transitioning to yellow edible fruit is called curuba. The Sword-billed hummingbird plays a pivotal role in its pollination. This bird, boasting a beak longer than its body, is a key pollinator, drawn by the nectar seated at the bottom of the long corolla tube of the plant. There are a few different varieties of Passiflora mixta. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Oriental).
