Parodia schumanniana


Parodia schumanniana is a succulent subshrub native to southern Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and Paraguay. Its green, ribbed stems become columnar with age and are covered with numerous golden to brown spines arising from woolly areoles. Yellow flowers open near the crown of mature stems. The species grows naturally in subtropical grasslands and rocky areas. Photographed in Florida.
