A Parathesis with inflorescence with reddish-purple flowers with yellow stamens

Parathesis (species unidentified)

Native from Mexico through tropical America, this genus of shrubs and small trees includes several species native to Colombia. Its members often have star-shaped hairs on their young branches and on the underside of the leaves near the main vein.

The flowers have a spreading corolla with narrow, often hairy lobes. The lobes meet edge to edge while the flower is in bud. Photographed in Colombia.
