Paraserianthes lophantha (Cape Wattle)
Native to southwestern Australia and parts of Indonesia from Sumatra to the Lesser Sunda Islands, this shrub or tree commonly reaches 7 to 26 feet tall. Its feathery, twice-divided foliage accompanies yellow-green flower clusters with conspicuous stamens, followed by flattened seed pods. It has become naturalized in New Zealand and other regions outside its native range. In southeastern Australia it is an environmental weed, invading woodland edges, waterways, and disturbed ground. Photographed in Colombia.
