Paphiopedilum liemianum has a pink slipper orchid with spotted horizontal petals

Paphiopedilum liemianum

Native only to northern Sumatra, Indonesia, this perennial slipper orchid grows on limestone and in nearby humus. Its flower stalk produces blossoms successively, extending the flowering display. Each flower has a pink-purple pouch, a pale upper sepal with a green center, and narrow, purple-spotted petals that twist toward their tips. The undersides of its leaves are heavily purple-spotted. This restricted-range species is critically endangered in the wild. Photographed in Colombia.
