Palicourea ostreophora

Palicourea ostreophora is a wet-tropical shrub native from Venezuela through western South America to Bolivia. Opposite leaves grow along woody stems, and compact fruiting structures are surrounded by dark reddish-purple bracts. The rounded fruits develop a striking metallic blue color at maturity. Research-grade observations document the species in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
