Hanging Palicourea paniculata flower clusters with yellow, cream and purplish tubular flowers

Palicourea paniculata

A shrub or small tree native from central Colombia to Venezuela and Suriname, it grows in wet tropical forests, including recovering woodland. The name Palicourea lineariflora, formerly used for this plant, is now treated as a synonym. Its tubular flowers have a swollen base and an internal ring of hairs. White corollas with greenish tips can become purple as they age, and the fleshy fruits ripen to black. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
