Palicourea dives

Native to southwestern Colombia and Ecuador, this tropical shrub grows in humid forest habitats. Deep blue-purple flowers and rounded buds gather into dense clusters, with pale yellow showing inside some open blossoms. It belongs to the coffee family. Members of this genus typically have flowers pollinated by hummingbirds and fleshy fruits dispersed by birds. Photographed in Ecuador.
