Pachypodium saundersii

Native to southeastern Africa, it is a succulent shrub reaching about five feet tall. Its enlarged stem base stores water and supports several narrow, spiny branches. White flowers can be flushed with pink or purple on the outside and are produced near the stem tips. The species grows among rocks and in crevices in relatively dry woodland. Photographed in Colombia.
