Pachypodium decaryi
Native to northern Madagascar, this rare succulent shrub grows on limestone plateaux in deciduous forest. Its swollen, bottle-shaped base stores water through the dry season. Mature branches have few spines compared with many other members of the genus. Large white flowers have a long tube opening into five broad lobes and appear mainly from April to June in its native habitat. It belongs to the dogbane family, Apocynaceae. Photographed in Florida.
