Originating from Mexico, it is a bulbous herbaceous perennial ornamental. The leaves and flowers offer a sharp, lemony flavor. The flowers, blooming in red or pink with a contrasting white, green, and yellow center. At night, the flowers close to reopen with the morning sun. Photographed in Quindio, Colombia.
