Origanum vulgare
Native to Europe and Asia, it is an aromatic herbaceous perennial with branching stems and a bushy habit. It can reach about three feet tall. Small pinkish-purple or white flowers form compact clusters among leafy bracts. The blossoms have two lips and projecting stamens characteristic of the mint family. Its fragrant leaves are widely known as a culinary seasoning. Photographed in Colombia.
