Onoseris onoseroides inflorescences

Onoseris onoseroides

Native from southern Mexico through Central America to Venezuela, it is a perennial herb, subshrub or shrub of seasonally dry tropical habitats. In Colombia it occurs in the Andes, OrinoquĆa, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Magdalena Valley. Its divided leaves have a large terminal segment and woolly undersides. Large, broadly branching clusters carry narrow flower heads, each containing several reddish tubular florets with two-lipped corollas. The slender, hairy fruits are topped by a tuft of bristles. Photographed in Colombia.
