Onoseris hyssopifolia
Native to Ecuador, this Andean herb grows from a firm, spindle-shaped underground stem. Its weak stems can lie along the ground, carrying grayish leaves and pink to lavender flower heads. Each head is made up of many small florets, with the outer ones forming petal-like rays. In Ecuador, it grows in open, sparsely vegetated grasslands in river valleys at elevations around 4,900 feet. Photographed in Peru.
