Onoseris alata

Native from Bolivia to northwestern Argentina, this flowering member of the daisy family belongs to the South American genus Onoseris. Its flower head has broad pink-purple outer rays surrounding a compact yellow centre. Like other members of Asteraceae, its apparent single blossom consists of numerous smaller florets gathered into one head. Photographed in southern Peru.
