Six violet-pink Olsynium junceum segments spread around a yellow centre on a slender green stem

Olsynium junceum

Native from Peru through southern South America, this perennial member of the iris family grows from underground rhizomes. Slender rush-like stems carry violet-pink flowers with six spreading segments surrounding yellow central structures. The narrow segments create an open star-shaped blossom. It occurs within subtropical parts of its native range. Photographed in Peru.
