Long reddish-brown Oenocarpus mapora inflorescences hang in fine branching curtains beneath feather-like fronds

Oenocarpus mapora

Native to tropical Central and South America, this palm grows in humid tropical habitats. Its feather-like fronds form a spreading crown above slender upright stems. Large hanging inflorescences develop below the crown, with numerous fine branches creating a curtain-like display. The species belongs to Arecaceae, the palm family, and produces edible fruits. In the Peruvian Amazon, the pulp is used to prepare a juice. Photographed in Colombia.
