Oeceoclades cordylinophylla

Native to Madagascar and the Comoros, this perennial orchid grows on the ground or on shaded rocks. Closely packed pseudobulbs each support a single leathery leaf. In summer, upright, branching flower sprays reach about 16 to 20 inches long and carry numerous small flowers. The flowers are about half an inch across. It favors deep shade and grows in conditions ranging from warm to cool. Photographed in Florida.
