Odontonema tubaeforme

Native from southern Mexico to Colombia, this shrub grows in wet tropical habitats. Its red tubular flowers are slightly two-lipped, with the pollen-bearing anthers held inside the corolla tube and two additional, reduced sterile stamens. Outside its native range, it has naturalized around settlements and along rainforest margins in Queensland. It is recognized as an emerging environmental weed in Queensland and New South Wales. It has also naturalized in Hawaii, Tahiti and Samoa. Photographed in Barranquilla and the department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
