A small white Nymphoides ezannoi flower spreads five lobes around a yellow centre above floating leaves

Nymphoides ezannoi

Native from western tropical Africa east to Sudan, this aquatic perennial herb occurs in seasonally dry tropical regions. Small white flowers open above the water with five spreading lobes and yellow centres. Floating leaves give it a superficial resemblance to a miniature water lily. It belongs to Menyanthaceae, the buckbean family, and is botanically separate from the true water lilies of the genus Nymphaea. Photographed in Florida.
