Nymphaea hybrid

Developed in cultivation, these hybrid aquatic perennial herbs include both hardy and tropical water lilies. Flower colors vary by cultivar and include white, yellow, orange, pink, red, and purple. Their rounded leaves float at the water surface, while rhizomes grow in submerged soil. Many varieties flower repeatedly through the warmer months, and some are fragrant. Hardy hybrids tolerate cold winters, while tropical hybrids require warm conditions. Photographed in Florida.
