Nyctanthes arbor-tristis
Native to southern Asia, this shrub or small tree grows on rocky hillsides and in dry deciduous forests. Its fragrant flowers open at night, lose their scent as daylight approaches and fall by morning. The flat, brown fruits have two sections, each containing a single seed. It is cultivated for its night fragrance and is often planted near monasteries in parts of South and Southeast Asia. Propagation is by stem cuttings. Photographed in Colombia.
