Nidularium innocentii
Native to eastern and southern Brazil, this perennial bromeliad grows on trees or rocks in humid tropical habitats. Its leaves form a spreading rosette, with colorful bracts surrounding the small white flowers at the centre. The bracts are modified leaves rather than petals. It is cultivated as an ornamental, but commercial collection from forests has put pressure on wild populations in Paraná, Brazil. It can be raised from seed. Photographed in Colombia.
