Musa × paradisiaca (Plantain)

Developed in cultivation from Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana, this herbaceous hybrid is grown widely for its starchy fruit. The fruit is commonly cooked when green and becomes sweeter as it ripens to yellow. Photographed in the central Andes mountain range of Colombia.
