Musa haekkinenii
Native to northern Vietnam, this compact perennial banana forms clumps through freely growing suckers. Its slender pseudostems reach about three to five feet tall and carry broad, green leaves. Upright flower clusters retain their orange-red bracts as flowering progresses. The flowers are orange with light green lobes and cream-coloured anthers. Small, straight fruits develop in groups of two to four. Its compact growth and persistent colourful bracts suit ornamental planting. Photographed in Florida.
