Pale greenish-cream Mucuna mutisiana flowers hang from long slender stalks beside a reddish hairy pod

Mucuna mutisiana

Native to the Dominican Republic and from Costa Rica through northern South America to northern Peru, this woody vine grows in humid tropical vegetation. In Colombia, it grows from sea level to about 7,500 feet. Pendant clusters carry large pale greenish-cream flowers with folded, pea-like segments. Long flowering stalks suspend the blooms below the climbing stems. Photographed in Colombia.
