Morus alba
Native to China, this deciduous tree has a broad rounded crown that can reach about sixty feet tall. Small yellow-green flowers develop in compact spring clusters. Female flowers produce sweet, elongated multiple fruits that may ripen white, pink, red, or purple-black. The species has a long history of cultivation because its leaves provide food for silkworms. Birds disperse its seeds, and it has become invasive in Wisconsin. It can hybridize with the native North American red mulberry. Photographed in Colombia.
