Native to Andaman Is., Assam, Bangladesh, Bismarck Archipelago, Borneo, and Cambodia and nearby regions, this is a tree in the Rubiaceae family. It is a small fruit tree. The medical attributes of Indian mulberry are traditionally used as a medicinal herb in Polynesia, the plant has been found to have a broad range of therapeutic effects including anti-diabetic properties​, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antifungal, and analgesic activities, among others​​.
