White Monochaetum floribundum flowers spread four broad petals around curled pink stamens on reddish stems

Monochaetum floribundum

Native from Mexico through Central America, this perennial shrub grows about 2 to 8 feet tall in humid mountain forests, along roadsides and at forest edges. Its four-petaled flowers range from white to pale pink, with pink and yellow anthers. The reddish capsules contain numerous tiny seeds. In Costa Rica, it flowers through much of the year, especially from October to March, and is valued as an ornamental. Photographed in Colombia.
