Monnina subspeciosa
Native to the northern Andes, this branching shrub can reach about sixteen feet tall. In Colombia and Ecuador, it grows between about 3,300 and 10,500 feet. Numerous small flowers develop in broad, loosely branching clusters. Violet-blue wings contrast with yellow centres, giving the individual blooms a pea-like appearance. Photographed in Ecuador.
