Native to Mexico to northern and central South America and Jamaica, it is a shrub in the Melastomataceae family. Documented elevations extend from about 0 to 7,850 feet. It develops branching woody stems and dense foliage, with white flowers arranged singly or in inflorescences. Photographed in Colombia.
