Miconia dolichorrhyncha
Native from Costa Rica to tropical South America, it is a shrub or tree of moist forests, including secondary woodland and disturbed sites. Its leaves taper into long, pointed tips and have five prominent veins, with short brown hairs on their undersides. Branched clusters at the shoot tips bear tiny white flowers. The berries vary from yellow or orange to dark purple-black at full maturity. In Colombia, its wood has been used in rural construction, for tool handles and as fuel. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia.
