White Mesechites trifidus flowers have green throats and long pink tubes beside green buds

Mesechites trifidus

Native from Mexico through Central America and the Caribbean into South America, this woody climber grows in moist and dry forests, thickets, and forest margins. Clusters of white to cream flowers arise at the leaf axils. Each flower has a long narrow tube and spreading lobes, often with green colouring near the throat. The tube may be reddish on the outside. Long, slender seed pods split open to release seeds tipped with tufts of silky hairs. In Honduras, flowers and fruit have been recorded throughout the year. Photographed in Colombia.
