Melanthera nivea
Native from the southeastern United States through tropical America, this branching perennial herb or subshrub occurs in forest margins, coastal uplands, and disturbed habitats. It can reach about six feet tall. Dense white flower heads contain small tubular florets and lack the petal-like rays of many daisies. The flowers provide nectar for butterflies, skippers, bees, and wasps. Photographed in Colombia.
