Melampodium leucanthum
Native to the south-central and southwestern United States and northern Mexico, this perennial herb thrives in dry, sunny conditions. It forms low, spreading clumps in dry, rocky habitats, including limestone slopes and grasslands. White ray florets surround a central cluster of small yellow disk florets. The daisy-like flower heads can appear over a long season from spring into autumn. The honey-scented flowers attract bees and butterflies. It tolerates heat and drought but needs excellent drainage. Photographed in Peru.
