Native from Mexico to Brazil, Melampodium divaricatum, is an annual plant that thrives in warm climates in regions with hot, humid summers. This plant typically grows to a height of 12 to 24 inches and spreads about 10 to 15 inches. It produces prolific daisy-like flowers with bright yellow petals and darker yellow centers, blooming continuously. The flowers are approximately 1 inch in diameter and are supported by purplish stems. It is also resistant to deer browsing. Cultivars such as 'Derby' and 'Jackpot Gold' have been developed, offering variations in flower size and plant height to suit different garden designs.
