Medinilla balls-headleyi
Native to Queensland, Australia, this woody rainforest climber usually climbs into the tree canopy by its roots, though it can also flower as a scrambling shrub. Waxy pink flowers are about 0.75 inches across and have ten stamens of two different sizes. It occurs in lowland and upland rainforest, from near sea level to about 1,500 feet. The flowers develop into bright pink fruits that turn purple when ripe, each containing numerous tiny seeds. It is grown as an ornamental in tropical gardens. Photographed in Florida.
