Maxillaria triloris
Native to Peru, this epiphytic orchid grows in wet tropical habitats. Its slightly flattened pseudobulbs produce solitary flowers on upright stalks. The flowers can span about four and a half inches, with conspicuously long petals and spreading sepals surrounding the smaller lip. This species grows on other plants for support rather than rooting in the forest floor. Photographed in Colombia.
