A Masdevallia notosibirica flower has elongated pink sepals marked with pale stripes

Masdevallia notosibirica

Native to Bolivia, this miniature perennial epiphytic orchid grows in cool cloud forests between about 7,100 and 9,200 feet. Short, slender stems each carry an elliptical, leathery leaf on a narrow leaf stalk. Solitary flowers about three-quarters of an inch across appear on short, upright stalks at or just above the leaves, mainly in spring. The showy sepals extend into narrow tails. Photographed in Florida.
